Legal Ethics & Technology for the Trust & Estate Lawyer:

Digital Devices, Confidentiality Concerns, & Trust Accounting

Presented by Professor Jan L. Jacobowitz

Lecturer in Law, Associate Director of the Center for Ethics & Public Service, and Director of the Professional Responsibility & Ethics Program (PREP), University of Miami’s School of Law

This interactive presentation will explore the ethical use of technology in the practice of law. The discussion will include the legal ethics issues, such as attorney competence and client confidentiality, that arise in connection with the use of smart phones, WiFi hot spots, personal laptops, printers, and other devices. Also, included in the program will be both traditional and digital legal ethics concerns pertaining to trust accounting and the safekeeping of client property.

Who Watches the Watchman? Exploring the Role of Trust Protectors in Domestic Trusts

Presented by:  Presented by Elaine M. Bucher, Esq. – Gunster

This presentation will explore the powers and duties of a trust protector. In addition, the presenter will explore what liability (if any) trust protectors face for serving in this capacity.

The workshop session has been approved for 2 hours of continuing education credit and the dinner presentation has been approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit for the following disciplines: CLE ETHICS (Legal), CFP (Certified Financial Planners) and CPE(Accountancy)

The guest fee for this meeting is $65. You may prepay by credit card or you may pay by credit card or check at the door (make your check payable to the Estate Planning Council). As a guest, if you decide to become a member of our organization within 45 days of this meeting, the $65 will be credited toward the fee for any membership.

Membership dues include the cost of all dinners.
