Kristin Vaughn began her career in the art world as a marketing director with an international art fair firm. Marketing museum-quality exhibitions in Palm Beach, Miami, and London to collectors, dealers, and press ultimately led to her current position in business development with the fine art auction house, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. In January 2010, she and a small staff opened the Chicago based company’s first satellite office in Naples, Florida. Her primary function with the firm is to introduce auction and appraisal services to trust and estate bankers and attorneys, private clients, and museum registrars and curators throughout Florida and the Southern Region.

This presentation will provide a light-hearted review of the latest appellate decisions in the areas of probate, trust, and guardianship law.
Eric Virgil is a member of The Florida Bar and the North Carolina State Bar. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. His firm, The Virgil Law Firm, is located in Coral Gables, Florida. In 2011, he was awarded the Judge Maria M. Korvick Award for exemplary service to the bench, bar, and community in probate and guardianship matters and awarded the Bonnie L. Cooper Memorial Probate & Guardianship Award from the Dade County Bar Association Legal Aid/Put Something Back. Eric chairs the Digital Assets and Information Committee and is Vice-Chair of the Guardianship Practice and Advanced Directives Committee of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar. Eric is the past chair of the Dade County Bar’s Probate and Guardianship Committee. In addition to his positions already noted, Eric is an active member of the Probate and Trust Litigation Committee and Probate Law and Procedure Committee of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar. Eric is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating a lawyer can attain from that nationally-known directory. He graduated with honors from both the University of Miami and from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Law. He has lectured before many professional groups on trust, estate, and guardianship administration, trust, estate and guardianship litigation, and related topics.

The Intersection of Estate Planning and Medicaid Asset Protection Planning

The cost of long-term care is high enough to impoverish otherwise affluent estate planning clients. This workshop will address the emerging standard-of-practice for wills, trusts and powers of attorney when it comes to clients who want to (or should be) planning for long-term care. For example, participants will learn about reverse pour-over qualified special needs trusts which can allow a surviving spouse to obtain Medicaid while preserving the family assets. Often essential power of attorney provisions will also be discussed.
Scott Solkoff is a Florida Bar Board Certified specialist in Elder Law practicing from Delray Beach, Florida. Scott is co-author, with his father, of West’s Florida Elder Law Practice Guide, a 1,000 page publication now beyond its 14th edition. Scott is a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), an exclusive organization of national thought leaders in estate planning. Scott has served as Chair of The Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section, President of the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys, has served on the Board of Directors of the Florida State Guardianship Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Alpert Jewish Family and Children’s Services and the Mandel JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches. Scott has also served as a Trustee of the Florida Council on Aging. He has served on a number of government panels, think tanks and task forces by appointment of the Governor of the State of Florida, The Florida Senate and Florida’s Attorney General. His work on law and public policy has been favorably reported on throughout the national media including National Public Radio, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger’s Magazine and all major Florida papers. Scott educates other attorneys throughout the country and his seminars are also distributed by bar associations on audio and video. Solkoff Legal, P.A. has 4 attorneys all directing their life work to the protection of the elderly and disabled, their caregivers and their families. He is a graduate of the University of Florida and cum laude from Nova Southeastern University Law School where he went to school on a Goodwin fellowship.
